Solar fences are becoming increasingly popular in Europe and North America, using PV Ground Mounting Systems to fix solar panel verticially on the lands working as fences, with many countries exploring the potential of this technology. Now, according to energy software specialist Gridcog, vertical bifacial solar could also be a viable option in Australia. The system still can be equipped with Solar Battery Storage, or work as Ground On Grid Solar System
Gridcog has revealed that solar fences, which consist of bifacial panels and PV Mounting that are oriented east and west at 90-degree tilt angles, have shown promising yield and revenue potential in simulations comparing them to typical ground-mount solar systems.
To test this, Gridcog used its software to create two scenarios for both London and Sydney: one using conventional solar and one using a solar fence configuration. The company then ran a one-year model against typical irradiance data for each location.
In the conventional solar scenario, 100 kW (DC)/100 kW (AC) systems using monofacial panels were used for both sites. London was oriented 180 degrees south and Sydney at 0 degrees north, both with a tilt of 40 degrees.
Based on these simulations, solar fences have shown great potential to provide more efficient and cost-effective energy solutions. Additionally, their vertical configuration could help reduce land use and improve flexibility in installation locations.
As countries continue to explore the possibilities of solar energy, the emergence of solar fences and vertical bifacial solar panels shows great promise for the future of sustainable energy production.
