The study surveyed 993 German farmers to understand their motivations for considering agrivoltaic systems. Researchers found that the desire for additional income was one of the main factors motivating farmers to invest in this technology. Farmers also cited the usefulness of the integration of solar power and agricultural production as a key factor, with many seeing it as a way to make their farms more sustainable.
The survey also considered factors such as risk tolerance, innovativeness, level of knowledge, environmental awareness, climate change impact, energy price impact, and subjective norm. The latter refers to the perceived social pressure coming from influential people.
The deployment of agrivoltaic systems has the potential to provide many benefits for farmers and the environment. By generating clean energy, these systems can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. Additionally, the technology can help to increase the efficiency of land use, as the same land can be used for both agricultural production and energy generation.
Tthe findings of the Fraunhofer ISE study indicate that more and more farmers are recognizing the benefits of agrivoltaic systems and are motivated to invest in this innovative technology. With the potential to generate additional income while contributing to a more sustainable future, it is clear that the future looks bright for agrivoltaics in Germany and beyond.
