The French solar self-consumption scheme has seen significant growth in the first half of 2023, according to the latest figures from Enedis, the country's grid operator. The combined capacity of all PV systems installed under the scheme reached 960 MW by June, compared to just 347 MW a year earlier. There were approximately 326,000 PV systems deployed under the scheme at the end of June, with 10,200 installations connected to battery storage.
Around 400 energy communities are registered for self-consumption in France, with 246 already operational and collectively serving 3,732 users.
The capacity of PV systems exceeding 10 kW more than doubled in the first six months of 2023. Almost 86,000 new self-consumers were connected over the first half of the year, nearly matching the volume for all of 2022, which saw just over 90,000 new connections. These figures demonstrate the growing popularity and success of France's solar self-consumption scheme, which is driving significant market growth in the sector.
